A few more attempts of the Southside 3 Peaks challenge has resulted in a shuffle of the tables.
Females:
1) Leonie D - 3:19:50 (24.9km)
Males:
1) Tony H - 2:10:55 (22.9km)
2) Jeremy W - 2:14:28 (22.4km)
3) Brendan E - 2:15:31 (23.2km)
4) Ryan R - 2:29:07 (25.5km)
For an "out-of-towner", Jeremy certainly put the locals to shame with his very efficient run of 22.4km.
Only 1 week left, so get running!

Social Run: Mt Tennent by Moonlight!
When: Tuesday 17 December 2013.
Time: 19:00hrs kickoff. This should allow us to catch the sunset on the way up and revel in the full moon on the way down! Sunset is ~20:00ish.
Meet: Namadgi Visitor's Centre. Suspect the little car park out the front of the main gates will still be accessible.
Distance: ~15km
Have you been outside and looked up? Even without a full moon, on a clear night it's nice and bright. Full moon next week! I reckon that will make for a beautiful night run. Head torches would be a good idea, but if conditions are just right and the sky clear, we should be able to switch them off...Moonbeam Descent segments at the ready! ;)
Comment if you're in...

Trail Review: Cooleman Ridge
Looking towards the Bullen and Brindabella ranges. |
Cooleman Ridge provides a beautiful way to escape our sometimes hectic lives. On the southwest side, there are the beautiful open spaces of farmland with the spectacular background of the Bullen and Brindabella ranges. On the Chapman side of "the ridge" you have views of the Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Canberra CBD, and, the untouched mountains scattered throughout the Canberra area.
Looking towards the Canberra CBD from Mt Arawang. |
For those of you that like that don't mind a hill or two, Cooleman Ridge provides great views from it's two highest points at the summit of Mt Arawang and the Cooleman Trig point. The trails to these are narrower single tracks, some of which, are not in the best condition.
Where to access it?
The suburb of Chapman provides plenty of access points to Cooleman Ridge. However, for those considering making the trip by car, or are unfamiliar with the area, here are the three best locations for accessing Cooleman Ridge:
- Namatjira Dr, Chapman
- Hake Street, in northwest Kambah
- Kathner St, Chapman

Wanting more?
For those thinking of longer runs, there are trails connecting Cooleman Ridge to Narrabundah Hill in Duffy then onto Mt Stromlo; to McQuoid's Hill and on to the Murrumbidgee Discovery Trail; or if you're willing to cross a road or two, you can easily connect your run to Mt Taylor and the Woden Valley.
